Nesting Information

The perfect wildlife garden has nesting places for any number of birds - in theory. But sometimes our native birds need a helping hand where finding nest and roosting sites is concerned.

Siting Your Boxes

1. Fix your nest box or roosting box or pocket about 1.5 to 5 metres above ground level.

2. Avoid facing strong sunlight, prevailing winds or rain.

3. Place out of reach away from cats and away from perches that could be used by predators.

4. Keep away from the bird table as this will put off potential occupants.

5. Avoid siting two boxes close together to avoid rival male aggression.

6. Be patient.

7. Each Autumn (if vacant) remove and clean.
