Promoting the work of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO)
The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) is at the forefront of giving science-based understanding to the sometimes puzzling occurrences and trends we witness with garden bird life. Just this past 12 months have seen difficult weather conditions for our garden birds, from a harsh and cold winter to parched and dry ground conditions this last spring, making natural food resources for some species very scarce.
We have enjoyed a close relationship with the BTO for many years. As organisations we have a lot of shared interests, not least our long-term commitments to birds and conservation. This is why we're so delighted to be working even more closely with them. It means we can bring you exciting information about their research as well as the opportunity to support them in their work.

More about the BTO >>>
Last year you were able to support the BTO in their tracking studies of Nightingales by shopping from their catalogue and by adding donations to orders you placed with us. Now, because of our new partnership, we've made it even easier to help raise money for this wonderful organisation. This year they are focusing on Thrushes that come here for the winter from Russia and Iceland. Any money you can spare will help the BTO Thrushes Appeal and pay for a major new survey to look at the way Redwings and Fieldfares take advantage of the UK’s mild winters. As keen bird watchers, we all expect to see them popping up in our gardens when the weather turns cold, but what do they do for the rest ofthe year? Visit our Seasonal News page to find out.
Remember, by providing the right kind of food through the winter you're helping to attract red-listed species such as House Sparrow, Starling and Song Thrush. Just think about the wonderful sights and sounds you would experience if these little beauties come to visit you.
